As we open up, we need to make sure Ohioans can protect themselves and their loved ones. That’s why Rep. Lisa Sobecki and I are introducing the Worker Protection Act.
This legislation will ensure that those who are at-risk, over 65, or live with someone who is at-risk or over 65 can choose to quit or not return to work outside of their home – without losing access to unemployment benefits. It also extends those same rights to all workers where employers have failed to follow the safety mandates issued by the Ohio Department of Health during the pandemic.
Other states, including North Carolina, Colorado, and Texas, have similar policies to protect their workers. Ohio needs to join them – because no one should have to choose between their life and their livelihood.
